ArtStarter focus – Jarred Dewey13 July 2012 Artery
Circus artist, contortionist and aerialist Jarred Dewey used his ArtStart year to develop his skills, improve his resources and to travel internationally to develop his networks.
Reflecting on the previous year Jarred said ‘ArtStart helped me create a presence within the international circus community by travelling to some of the most influential performing arts festivals around the world’.
Jarred purchased new specialist equipment, including a swinging trapeze, and the accompanying rigging hardware and maintenance supplies. He also undertook dance classes to improve his technique.
Professional photography of Jarred in performance means that he now has striking, high quality images of his work to distribute to companies and partners.
Jarred met potential partners as he travelled to the 2011 Montreal Complètement Cirque, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and ImpulzTanz Vienna. He was able to see for himself international best practice in circus arts, and to grow an important network of fellow performers, directors and casting agents.
Recently Jarred joined Circa as a a full-time ensemble member. Watch Jarred perform his contortion act as part of the Circus Cabaret at the 2010 Woodford Folk Festival:
