Visiting International Publishers program 2012

16 March 2012 Artery

The Visiting International Publishers (VIPs) program is complete for another year. The Australia Council for the Arts VIPs program promotes rights sales of Australian titles in global markets and strengthens links between Australian and international publishers. The 2012 program was delivered in partnership with Adelaide Writers’ Week as part of the Adelaide Festival.

13 wonderful international guests soaked up the Adelaide sunshine and met with 58 registered Australian Publishers 5-7 March. Friendships and connections have been made and our international guests have some fond memories of Adelaide: the perfect 25-27C sunny days, wineries, beaches, hills, arts festivals and wildlife as well as wonderful food and Australian hospitality.

The results of the program are just beginning. Many Australian publishers will meet again at Bologna Children’s Book Fair 19-22 March, then London Book Fair 16-18 April and Frankfurt Book Fair in August. In the last financial year the VIPs program has been responsible for over thirty Australian titles being licensed for international publication. We look forward to the sale results and on-going relationships generated by the 2012 program which will blossom over the years to come.

2012 hosted an awesome group, carefully curated by the VIP committee made up of Rights Manager, Nerrilee Weir from Random House, Literary Agent, Pippa Masson from Curtis Brown and Fiction Editor, Aviva Tuffield from Scribe Publications. The exchange between the Australian publishers and international guests was of mutual benefit and we received lots of compliments from the guests and Australian publishers alike.

We are very happy with the delivery and outcomes of the 2012 VIPs program.
